We have been providing herniated disc treatment for teens in San Francisco for over 20 years now. During this time we have seen our fair share of teenagers and young adults who were suffering with herniated disc symptoms.
Usually the herniated disc is in the lower lumbar spine at the L4-L5 or L5-S1 spinal disc level. Sometimes we know what caused the herniated disc and sometimes we don’t. Off the top of my head I can recall a few surfing wipe-outs and skateboard accidents that resulted in lumbar disc bulges and herniations, as well as many sports injuries…mostly from high school football. We have had a few gymnasts that have suffered disc herniations and some dancers.
The symptoms that these young adults and teens have presented with have usually been various combinations of low back pain, sciatica, numbness and tinging in the legs and feet, leg weakness, night pain, and hip pain.
Often times chiropractic adjustments will fix the problem and sometimes it wont. When chiropractic fails to deliver results we consider nonsurgical spinal decompression with the DRX9000. The DRX9000 is a machine designed and built to treat neurovascular compression syndromes such as herniated and bulging spinal discs.
The good news is that young adults and teens respond very well to decompression therapy and the results seem to last.
If the discs herniations are left untreated then they will usually become progressively worse and effect the other parts of the spine making the problem more difficult to treat. The time is always NOW to get treatment so that this does not happen.
To find out if you are a candidate for decompression therapy you first need to meet with a doctor that offers these services and have them examine you and review your MRI. It’s rare when a teen or young adult does not qualify medically for the DRX9000, but it does happen…it’s usually when there is a severe scoliosis or unstable Spondylolithesis.
