Can Spinal Decompression Help Spinal Stenosis?

Spinal stenosis is narrowing of the spinal column that can cause pressure on the spinal cord, or spinal nerves, by narrowing the opening of the spinal canal or neural foramina, where spinal nerves leave the spinal column. This usually occurs from spinal degeneration, disc degeneration or bulging and herniated discs.

Chronic inflammation of the spinal ligaments and surrounding soft tissues can also narrow the spinal canal  and nerve channels.

Spinal stenosis typically develops slowly over time and effects one side of the body or the other.

Depending on the age of the patient and the source of the spinal stenosis, surgery may be necessary to remove pressure off the spinal cord or nerves.

If the source of the spinal stenosis is a herniated or bulging disc…back or neck surgery may NOT be necessary. Physical therapy, or cortisone injections may offer relief.

Or,  you can consider nonsurgical spinal decompression with the DRX9000 (lumbar) or DRX9000c (cervical) decompression machines.

Spinal decompression can increase the size of the spinal canal or nerve channel by reducing the size of the herniated or bulging disc in most cases. Spinal decompression also enlarges the disc space, rehydrates the discs, and elongates the spine, making it stronger and more flexible.

With bony stenosis due to long standing spinal degeneration, disc degeneration, bone spurs, and inflamed and hardened ligaments, spinal decompression outcomes are not as favorable…but are still worth considering.

Spinal decompression machines act as a respirator for injured spines. The pumping action of spinal decompression therapy on an injured spinal segment helps the spine to do what it would if it could. Decompression when done for an extended period of time…say 2-3 months, will often offer enough relief to consider the treatment effective.

Bottom Line: Spinal decompression with the DRX9000 or DRX9000c should be considered by all patients who are searching for a nonsurgical solution to their cervical or lumbar spinal stenosis.
